  1. Welcome 6th Grade Detectives! Please do the following things IMMEDIATELY………….. • Take your Mystery Packets out. • Have a writing utensil ready! (Pen or sharpened pencil) • Take out your calculator and put your name on it with a post it (on the smart cart). • Clear your desk of any other items. Put everything else under your desk. • Your agenda will be up as soon as class starts!

  2. AGENDA 10-18-10 MYSTERY PACKET Take out and read “I say, Hearsay” Primary vs. Secondary Source Investigate Scrapbook 2 Minute Mystery (If there is time) Exit Ticket Learning Goal: Use reading strategies to better comprehension, decoding strategies, and gain understanding of narrative text.

  3. Primary Source Primary Source: information coming directly from an eyewitness. EXAMPLE: If there were a student being bullied in the hallways and you saw that happen and told a teacher to go and take care of it, then you are an eyewitness or primary source. You witnessed what happened first hand. Question: Who from the story is an eyewitness?

  4. Secondary Source Secondary Source: information that has been gathered indirectly from primary and other secondary sources. EXAMPLE: If there were a student being bullied in the hallways and you saw that happen, told your friend about it once you got to lunch and that friend went to a teacher to take care of it, then that friend is a secondary source. Your friend didn’t see this happen, but knew it did because s/he heard that it did from you. She gathered information indirectly, making her/him a secondary source. • Question: What information was gathered in the story that would be considered a secondary source?

  7. SCRAPBOOK • Review article and summary • Read second article • Summarize • Look at (preview) packet questions • Show how to divide the sheet & use of a Venn Diagram • answer the questions in the packet (Investigation 10 page 2)

  10. SCRAPBOOK: DIARY PAGE • Read Agatha’s Diary page • Answer questions: Investigation 10 page 3 • Discuss • Read and take notes on the remainder of the scrapbook. Create a Scrapbook Evidence page.
