2 Guiding Principles: • Victim-centeredness • Holistic advocacy
First: What does “victim-centered” mean?
Second: • What do we mean by “holistic” advocacy?
Therefore. . . • Holistic = addressing all survivor’s needs. But, • Must first be victim-centered by informing about what options exist.
~50% of victims leave their jobs because of their assaults. Concerns about privacy in the criminal justice system is consistently the top reasonvictims give for not reporting. What “needs” are we talking about? ~92% of homeless women report sexual violence during their lives; ~43% report sexual abuse as children. ~82% of sexual assaults are never reported to police. 15 of 16 rapists never spend a day behind bars.
