Updated CCSA Activities on IMT Standardization and industry in China Ke Wang, CCSA
Highlight of Current Activities(1/4) • Continue Standard evolution in 3GPP • TD-SCDMA/TD-LTE-Advanced Rel-10 in 3GPP was finished in Mar. 2011. • TD-SCDMA/TD-LTE-Advanced Rel-11 is on going, and target to be finished in Sep. 2012. • Much more and more companies are interesting on TD-LTE-Advanced standardization activity in 3GPP. • Working closely with global partners in 3GPP.
Highlight of Current Activities(2/4) • Continue Standard evolution in CCSA • The TD-SCDMA Industry standard Phase 5 is preparing to start in Q4, 2011. • TD-SCDMA further enhanced and optimized will under study in CCSA TC5 WG9 SWG2, which just founded in Aug, 2011 for TD-SCDMA standardization. • TD-LTE Industry standard Phase 1 just started in Q3, 2011, and target to be finished at end of 2012.
Highlight of Current Activities(3/4) • TD-LTE-Advanced submission to ITU-R • Final evaluation results of TD-LTE-Advanced from ChEG was submitted to WP5D#8 on Jun, 2010. • Chinese Evaluation Group (ChEG) worked on evaluation of IMT-Advanced candidate submissions in China. • ChEG did the activities of simulation calibration among its members and check evaluation assumption and results with other EGs. • TD-LTE-Advanced was formal approved as TDD RIT component of IMT-Advanced SRIT on ITU-R WP5D#9 in Oct, 2011.
Highlight of Current Activities(4/4) • TD-SCDMA commercial network in China • The TD-SCDMA subscribers have already exceeded 40 million by Aug 31, 2011. • TD-SCDMA Phase 4 network has been finished at end of 2010 by China Mobile, covering 330 cities. And Phase 5 will be started soon in 2011. • TD-LTE Test in China • The TD-LTE test was organized by CATR and CMCC(detail progress in P11-P14). • Phase I: POC • Phase II: technical test(IOT, indoor, outdoor) • Phase III: Large Scale trial
Strategic Direction • CCSA will continue to support the evolution of IMT-Advanced technologies, especially for TD-LTE-Advanced evolution. • CCSA will continue to contribute to develop the recommendation on “Detailed radio interface specifications for IMT-Advanced [IMT.RSPEC]” and “Analysis and assessment of global broadband wireless services and marketplace for IMT [IMT.UPDATE]”. • CCSA will continue to contribute to the future IMT development.
Challenges • TD-LTE Large Scale Trial • Multi-antenna technology application • Multiple system coexistence. • Interworking with TD-SCDMA, GSM, WiFi etc. • TD-LTE Industry • Multi-mode commercial terminal • TD-LTE Global Market • Commercial TD-LTE Network is still expected. • Global TDD frequency band for TD-LTE.
Next Steps / Actions • CCSA will start the TD-SCDMA industry standard phase 5 and TD-LTE industry standard phase 1. • Continue TD-LTE large scale test in China. • CCSA will continue to contribute to the future IMT development.
Supplementary Slides • Three main steps in TD-LTE’s Test in China Large Scale trial Technical trial • Large scale network performance test • Commercial facing test Concept validation • Single system test • Terminal chipset test • Iot test • Key technologies test • Network test Validation of physical layer key technologies
Industry chain of TD-LTE Infrastructure vendor Terminal/chipset Test equipment • Dongle、CPE、Tablet and smartphone • Over 50 test equipments • 11 vendors
TD-LTE Large Scale Trial in China • 6+1 cities with 83M population: Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Nanjing, Hangzhou, Xiamen and Beijing • 10 Infrastructure Vendors • 6 Chipset Vendors
Creation of Global TD-LTE Initiative • On Feb. 14 2011, a Global TD-LTE Initiative (GTI) was Established by 7 operators including Bharti Airtel, China Mobile, Softbank, Vodafone, Clearwire, E-Plus and Aero2. • GTI is a virtual open platform to advocate multilateral cooperation among global operators and vendors to promote TD-LTE, a standard for mobile broadband developed by the standards body 3GPP. • Website: http://www.lte-tdd.org/
