Mandated Programs and Services Required Under IDEA, 2004 RTI • Benefits all students by monitoring grade level progress in the areas of reading and math for all students K-5. • Provides research-based data driven information to identify at risk students early. • Prevents over-identification of Learning Disabilities (LD’s). IDEA Mandated Programs • Provides individualized programs and related services, recommended by the Committee on Special Education (CSE) or the Committee on Preschool Special Education (CPSE)
Meeting the Individual Needs of All Students with Disabilities • Develop programs and services based on the unique needs of a particular cohort of students. • Assess services district-wide each year to ensure that we have developed programs and services for all students who are moving from grade to grade or building to building.
Integrated Co-Teaching: Specially designed instruction provided to a group of students with disabilities and non-disabled students Consultant Teacher Services: Direct and/or indirect services to students with disabilities who attend regular education classes Related Services: Services in conjunction with a general education program or with other special education programs and services Resource Room: Designed for the purpose of supplementing the general education classroom instruction Special Education Programs

Special Education Programscont’d • Communication Development • Programs designed for students who have moderate language delays and require intensive instruction using grade level curriculum as a guide • Social skills and community-based instruction are built into the program, as well as academics for every-day living
One of Our Summer School Programs • Each week the children studied a particular city or country. • Through community outings students gained multifaceted learning opportunities in both the academic and social domains. • Through these community based activities students were provided the opportunity to apply their new skills.
Special Education Programscont’d • Intensive Needs Classes • We offer specially designed programs for students with communication delays including Autism and Pervasive Developmental Disorder. • Students may require a specialized way of learning, such as Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA), in a class with no more than 8 students. • Behavior intervention and modifications are an important part of the program.
School To Work Partnerships Eastchester High School • This program is provided during the school day for students with special needs to assist in the development of social skills and to help students gain work experience. • The employer gains access to reliable and productive workers, and • prepares students to transition to a productive adult life and become active members of their community. Participating community businesses include: • Value Drugs, Lake Isle, Whitson’s Food Service, and Elizabeth Arden Salons

Integration of TechnologyUsing iPads • iPads continue to be instrumental for students with disabilities. • Students are using iPads to learn and reinforce academic skills using appropriate educational apps; to develop social skills; to share information and in some instances iPads are used to help students communicate. • We are learning more about how to use iPads to support curriculum for students.

Working Together With SEPTA Special Education PTA • Create and fund after-school programs for students with special needs • Provide specialized consultants, such as a technology and music consultant District-wide • Provide grants for specialized reading and math programs, as well as, supplies to all teachers who are members of SEPTA • Annual teacher appreciation party • Provide scholarships every year to our students who are graduating
