Africa, South America, and Southeast Asia all have rain forests. They have rain forests because they are near the equater. Those continents receive more sunlight so the rainforests can grow.
Characteristics There is rain every day and there is 80 or more inches of rain a year. The rainforest is hot and wet and the temperature is 75 degrees to 86 degrees. More animals live in the rainforest than any other region. There are monkeys, ants, apes, birds, spiders, and jaguars.
WOW!! Can you believe the a rainforest can be 120 ft. tall and there are 5 layers? There is also 12 hours of sunlight! 200 million people live in rainforest regions. Scientists believe that there will be no rainforests by 2050. 10 million trees live in the rainforest too!
Shelter Most houses in the rainforest are made of sticks and hay. A lot of houses are built on stilts. The floors and walls are made out of tree bark and bamboo. Some houses in the rainforest are shaped like a bee hive.
Clothing In a rainforest you should wear shorts made of cloth and paint because its always hot there. People that live there also wear beads, hats and jewelry. It would also be a good idea to wear no shoes.
BOOM! If you were to travel in the rainforest you should fly a small airplane, ride a raft, walk, or ride in a canoe. You should not ride a car because you could crash into trees. You should mostly walk because it’s the easiest way to travel in the rainforest.
Jobs If you want to make a living in the rainforest you could be a lumberjack that clears land for food and money, a hunter, or a farmer. Also, you could be a scientist to study life in the rainforest. Fishing and digging mines and cutting trees could be another way to make a living.
