  1. Rainforest

  2. Rainforest Facts • Rainforests only cover 2% of the world but the rainforests hold 50% of the worlds trees. • Over one quarter of natural medicines are discovered in the tropical rainforest also known as ‘ jewels of the Earth. • The rainforests are responsible of 28% of the worlds air.

  3. Rainforests Layers • The forest floor. • The bottom-most layer, receives only 2% of the sunlight. Many forms of fungi growing here help decay the animal and plant waste

  4. Rainforests Layers • Understory Layer • The understory layer lies between the canopy and the forest floor. The understory is home to a number of birds, snakes and lizards, as well as predators such as jaguars , boa and leopards. Only about 5% of the sunlight shining on the rainforest canopy reaches the understory. This layer can be called a shrub layer, although the shrub layer may also be considered a separate layer.

  5. Rainforest Layers • The Canopy Layer • The Canopy layer contains the majority of the largest trees, typically 30–45 m tall. The canopy is home to 50 percent of all plant species, suggesting that perhaps half of all life on Earth could be found there. A quarter of all insect species are believed to exist in the rainforest canopy.

  6. Rainforests Layers • The Emergent Layer • The emergent layer contains a small number of very large trees called emergents. They need to be able to adapt to the hot temperatures and strong winds that occur above the canopy in some areas.

  7. Tree Frogs Tree Frogs A tree frog is spends a major portion of its lifespan in trees. Many tree frogs can change their colour for better camouflage. Tree frogs are usually tiny, as their weight has to be carried by the branches and twigs of the rainforest.

  8. Spider Monkeys • The spider monkey has long limbs and long tails. • Spider monkeys live in the upper layers of the rainforest • A spider monkey’s diet is fruits and the occasional plants and insects

  9. Bromeliads • Bromeliads are related to the pineapple family. Some bromeliads can hold several gallons of water. They also provide homes for wildlife in the rainforest.

  10. Lianas • Ninety per cent of the world's vine species grow in tropical rainforests. Lianas are a type of climbing vine found throughout tropical rainforests. They have thick, woody stems and come in various lengths (up to 3,000 ft) and varying shapes. They begin life on the forest floor but depend on trees for support as they climb upwards towards the sunlight they need for survival.

  11. The Huli Tribe Facts • The Huli Tribe live in Papua New Guinea. • The population of the Huli tribe is 150,000 • The have lived in their current area for 1000 years • They usually speak ‘Huli’ and Tok Pisin.

  12. Conclusion I have learnt many things about the rainforest and I hope you have to!!!!!
