In year 10 you must choose one of four pathways to follow: • Competitive team games • Competitive personal performance • Health and social well being • Movement and aesthetics Full course and short course PE students have the same options and are taught in the same lesson. You will have one teacher who will be responsible for you throughout year 10. They will teach you for each activity and get to know you very well. They will make sure that you have the health and fitness knowledge needed to pass your GCSE exam in year 11.
Competitive team games • You will have the opportunity to learn and be assessed in: • Football • Hockey • Basketball • Netball • Rugby • Cricket • Volleyball • Hand ball • Sport science • And some individual sports
Competitive personal performance • You will have the opportunity to learn and be assessed in: • Badminton • Tennis • Squash • Athletics • Climbing • Orienteering • Swimming • Table tennis • Trail running • Sport science • And some team games
Health and social well being • You will have the opportunity to learn and be assessed in: • Badminton • Step Aerobics • Climbing • Table tennis • Goal ball • Trekking • Yoga • Pilates • Bench ball • Golf Driving • Sport science
Movement and aesthetics You will have the opportunity to learn and be assessed in: • Dance • Gymnastics • Step Aerobics • Trampolining • Rhythmic gymnastics • Skipping • Choreography and production • Sport science
Frequently asked questions: “I really want to choose competitive team games but I also want to do Badminton. Do I get the chance to try it?” • Yes. In year 11, you will have a chance to ‘dip into’ other columns and choose a sport from a different pathway to yours. “I play for the school rugby team but want to choose competitive personal performance. Can I get a grade in rugby?” • Yes. If you play for a school team then your coach can give you a mark out of 10 that will count towards your final coursework grade. “I play water polo for my local club. Can I get assessed in it for my GCSE?” - Yes. Many sports that we can’t offer in school can be used to count towards your final coursework grades. From horse riding to canoeing. Please check with your PE teacher to see if we can assess you in it.
