The Mission The Bloomfield Early Childhood Center • Understands children and how to encourage growth and learning. • Involves parents and views them as our partners in their child’s education. • Provides meaningful, challenging cognitive & literacy enriched environments.
We, ~ • Nurture and develop learning by focusing on the whole child within all the developmental domains: Cognitive, Personal/Social, Communication, Motor and Adaptive as it relates to self care and personal responsibility. • Enable all children to actively participate through play. • Encourage our children to play, make choices and solve problems in a variety of child centered learning situations.
And ~~ • We are able to provide special teaching for children with identified needs. • We guide children to learn to work independently and cooperatively in a group; and most importantly to develop a respect for diversity.
The BECC Staff • The teachers have dual certification: Early Childhood Early Education/ Special Education. • The Readiness Class is staffed with a dual certified teacher and a C.D.A with an Associate Degree. • The classrooms operate within a 2:12 ratio of staff: students. • The school system’s Director of Special Services is the Center’s Administrator. • The Preschool Department Head assists with day to day operations and serves as the liaison with the Center’s Administrator.
The Bloomfield Public Schools Early Childhood Center provides the following services~~~ • Early Identification and Screening • Interdisciplinary Developmental Evaluations • Parent Training and Information • Special Education • Speech and Language Therapy • Occupational Therapy • Physical Therapy • Assistive Technology Services and Devices • Psychological Support and Services • Social Worker Support and Services • Family Resource Center Support and Services
Curriculum • The curriculum is based upon the Connecticut’s Preschool Curriculum Framework for Children in Preschool Programs. • The following are the guiding principles: • Early learning and development are multidimensional; developmental domains are high interrelated. • Young children are capable and competent. • There are individual differences in rate of development for all children.
And.. • Knowledge of growth and development as well as consistent expectations are essential in maximizing educational experiences for children . • Families are the primary caregivers and educators of their children. • Young children learn though active exploration of their environment through child initiated and teacher selected activities.
The Four Domains of Development • Personal & Social Development • Physical Development • Cognitive Development: Logical-Mathematical/Scientific Thinking & Language and Literacy • Creative Expression/ Aesthetic Development
The B.EC.C. (Pre-K) is a part of the school system’s K-12 curriculum scope and sequence of skills in the content areas. • The curriculum is designed on a two year cycle of themes. • The themes are based upon science & social studies concepts. • It is literacy enriched with non fiction and fiction literature. • It provides extending and enrichment activities. • It provides individualized instruction.
Social Development • The center’s goal is to provide a warm ,responsive environment in which children can build positive interactions of cooperation and community as well as to build self regulatory and decision making skills.
The Center Program • Provides half day preschool programming for three and four year old children. • The Program Hours are: • The Morning Class: 9a.m.-11:30 p.m. • The Afternoon class: 12:30-3:30 p.m. • Provides 12 half day Readiness slots for qualified families to receive funding support from the Town’s School Readiness Council. • Provides a limited number of full day program slots for four year olds : 9a.m.-3 p.m. • Tuition for ’05-’06 school year: Half Day-$70.00, Full Day $140.00.
