change in woman behavior • The Flappers as (represented by Betty Boop (to the right)) were an almost unacceptable group
FAshion • Were young women of the ‘20’s • Wore shorter skirts (time period) • The Women often had bob cuts, and other short boyish haircuts
Ideology • Wore excessive make up • Drank alcohol • Smoked • Drove Automobiles • Broke social and even sexual Norms

Pachucos • They were Mexican- American youth during the 30’s and 40’s in the Southwestern United States. • They were the 2nd generation of Mexican-American Youth from the burros and LA during WWII. • They were a rebellious group that originated in East Los Angeles. • They were the first subculture group to show their rebellion by display, like by their clothing and by their actions.
Fashion Zoot Suits • It was a style of clothing that became popular in the 1930’s and 40’s. • It was an oversized suit, with wide-legged pants gathered at the ankles, with huge shoulder pads, which was sometimes called a “carlango”. It was usually worn for formal occasions and it was worn with a long walled chain, pointed shoes, and a large hat with a feather.
Music • Music was also very important to them. • Much of the Puchucos lifestyle revolved around going to dance halls where they could listen and dance to swing bands.

Hipsters • Hipsters in the 1940’s were aficionados of jazz • Hipster is used to describe someone as “in the know” • White youth began to invade African American communities for music and dance

Hipsters • Loved to dress fancy • Rejected work • Refused to attend school • Did not accept any social obligation

Subcultures of the 50’s • “Mod” from modernist. It originated in London in the late 50’s. • They were most known for their obsession with style and reputation for fighting • Often socialized at seaside resorts on the south of England on the weekends • Cathy McGowan, host of the pop music show, “Ready, Steady go” was known as the “Queen of the Mods”.

Fashion • Emo fashion is usually recognized for its hairstyles, like long-swept bangs covering both eyes or just one. • Bright colors are also sometimes used as highlights in their hair.
