  7. Important Questions about Code • Have any externally-created libraries been used? • What are the permissions for external code incorporated? What are the license terms? • Who has contributed to the code and when? Under what funding? • How are you tracking these issues?

Rights within Commons “Commons” members • Perform, display, copy, modify, contribute back to Commons for distribution-CVS • If not utilized in ‘official release’, reverts back to individual institution for licensing “Non-Commons” users -Perform, display, modify • NO DISTRIBUTION, NO CONTRIBUTION

  12. Licensing Concerns • User Interface/Friendliness • Support available for users • Updates • Licensing model – direct to end-user, distributor, and/or start-up • Annual vs. Upfront & yearly support and updates

  13. Future Licensing • Identify codes for official release to academic and commercial users • Work with Digital Ventures to identify contributors and develop licensing plan • Educational seminars for users • Technology access programs – corporate partners which want access to new software first
