  2. The Twin Towers during the attack

  3. Text forpreviousimages: • The terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 were four coordinated hijackings, followed by suicide attacks on important civilian and military buildings in the United States of AMERICA. The events of this day are also briefly referred to as September 11th, Nine-eleven or 9/11. • Three commercial aircraft were hijacked on domestic flights between 8:13 a.m. and about 9:30 a.m. local time. The perpetrators flew two of them into the towers of the World Trade Center (WTC) in New York City and one into the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia. The fourth aircraft, which was likely to come across a government building in Washington D.C., was crashed after fighting with passengers and the pilot near Shanksville, Pennsylvania. • The attacks caused the death of about 3,000 people and were considered a terrorist mass murder. • About 15,100 of 17,400 people were able to save themselves from the WTC buildings. • The 19 hijackers were part of Al Qaeda's Islamist terrorist Organization. The US, among other things, has responded with the war in Afghanistan since 2001, to smash Al Qaeda, to catch or kill its leader Osama Bin Laden, and to eliminate the Taliban's Allied Regime. They also fought the Iraq War in 2003. Bin Laden was killed on May 2, 2011 by US soldiers at Operation Neptune's Spear. • Some historians judge 9/11 as a historical break, others disagree with this thesis. The state of emergency declared in the United States on 14 September 2001 is still in use.

  5. The historyoftheTwin Towers • The towers were opened in 1973 and used as an office. The idea for the building originated in 1939 at the beginning of World War II. On August 5, 1966, the foundation stone for the WTC was fixed.
