  2. Why metaphors & similes? • “Using metaphors and similes in the classroom encourages students to make connections between two items that might not otherwise be connected. When you ask your students to make these connections, you are giving them an opportunity to flex and expand their creative minds.” • - Performance Learning Systems (Feb. 2004)

  6. Get with a partner • Read a story with your partner. • While reading, observe where and how the author uses metaphors/similes in the story. • Discuss with your partner. • Share with the class. • This can be done as homework, individually, or as a collaborative effort.
