  3. DOP Placement • DOPs come before the conjugated verb. • Yo te abrazo. • I hug you. • Ellos me reconocen. • They recognize me. • Yo las crezco en el jardín. • I grow them in the garden. • Tú lo compras. • You buy it. • Ella nos ve en la tienda. • She sees us in the store.

  6. IOP Placement • Like DOPs, IOPs come before the conjugated verb. • When there is both a DOP and an IOP in the sentence, the IOP comes first, then the DOP, then the conjugated verb. • I’m sending itto you. • Telo mando/envío.

  7. What happens to the IOP “le” or “les” when it is next to a DOP? • It has to change to “se”. • Se lo mando. • I’m sending it to him. • I’m sending it to her. • I’m sending it to them. • I’m sending it to you all. • To clarify to whom “se” refers, you can add “a él”, “a ella” or “a ellos/ellas” at the end of the sentence. • Se lo mando a ella.

  8. Rewrite the sentences using both DOPs and IOPs. • You are throwing the ball to me. Melo lanzas/tiras. • He’s buying flowers for you. Telas compra. • They are sending the packages to them. Os/Sela cocina. • You all are cutting the cake for me. Melo cortáis/cortan. • I’m making cookies for you guys. Se las hago. • You are explaining the lesson to me. Mela explicas. • He’s growing pumpkins for the kids. Selas crece. • I’m offering the dinner to them. Se la ofreczo. • They are recommending the lobster to us. Nosla recomiendan. • They are replacing the shirts for you. Telas reponen. • I am translating the documents for them. Selos traduzco. • She’s serving the ball to them. Selo/la sirve.
