  1. Plan for Evaluating LLRF Deployment Solution at LCLS-II ZheqiaoGeng 6/5/2012

  2. Hardware Preparation • 12-slot crate • MCH and power supply unit • CPU board • EVR board • 2 or more SIS8300 board (with RTM) We may need to buy some new hardware. It can also act as firmware and software development platform in the future for LLRF system.

  3. Software Preparation • Extend the EPICS software to handle multiple SIS8300 boards Maybe need a little debugging of the device drivers.

  4. Test Plan at Lab • All SIS8300 boards run RF system simulator in FPGA, to test • How the multiple boards interrupt the CPU software? • Can CPU perform real-time processing, including data reading from FPGA, pulse-pulse phase and amplitude control at 120 Hz and waveforms acquisition at 120 Hz for all SIS8300 boards? • Measure the board to board cross talk • Check the interference between boards if one of them failed (like unplugged)

  5. Test Plan Klystron Gallery • Install the 12-slot system at LI28-2 • One SIS8300 board to measure and control LI28-2 • Another SIS8300 board to measure signals of LI28-1 or LI28-3, we need to make another RF support chassis (there should be one almost done) and order the cables • Later, use the same MicroTCA crate to control LI28-1, 2 and 3 This helps to identify the grounding problem if we use one crate to control multiple klystrons.

  6. Time Required • It may take weeks to order new hardware • Hardware/Software preparation and lab test can be done in a week • Klystron gallery test takes longer time (several weeks or several months due to the complex installation process in a working machine)
