The 5th Avenue of Service? New Generations Exchange is now officially the 5th Avenue of service Approved at the COL held in April 2010 by a small majority 263 to 250 The small majority of only 51.3% is perhaps indicative of Rotary in these times There are still a large number of members who do not believe the youth are our future
What are the goals of NG? To educate and lead youth towards a path of service and fellowship To exemplify Rotary International’s mission of goodwill peace and world understanding Demonstrate Rotary's respect and concern for youth
What is the importance of NG? Puts life and vitality back into Rotary Motivates older Rotarians to become more active again Puts fun back into Rotary It is the easiest and most effective recruitment tool available
Rotary needs NG Without younger blood we will all be heading the same way as this poor creature.
Why is NG so important? It is not easy to sell Rotary by traditional means and does the classification survey really work? Excited youth encourage their parents to get interested Without any hard selling the parents see the benefits gained by their offspring and become involved Interested parents are often keen to find out more and will join Rotary with a little encouragement
The 2 main ingredients Service Fellowship Get these two elements right and the rest will automatically fall into place. Make it fun, interesting and exciting then new Rotarians will truly want to know more Keen participants always get maximum benefit
What does NG involve? The acceptance that the youth are the future The realization that if we do nothing Rotary will become extinct Move slightly out of our comfort zone and get involved Remember that Rotary is allowed to be fun
Our future is critical We are living in times where we are loosing the Youth The wealthier ones are more interested in IPods', Blackberry Phones and the internet than events around them The less fortunate have nothing and little chance of ever getting it
Rotary has all the right ideals Rotary has a responsibility to try and make a difference Rotarians have a moral duty to instill these ideals into the Youth If Rotary could get the youth to accept the ideals of the 4 way test we would have achieved something
What is Rotaract? • Normally young adults 19-30 years old. • Run as independent Clubs but need lots of encouragement and support from their sponsor Rotary Clubs. • They are young and active and a source of cooperation and potential Rotarians.
What is Rotaract? • Rotaract is an independent body with their own constitution and bye laws • They want assistance and cooperation and NOT dictatorial control • They need to be treated like adults • Never ever try to discourage or dampen their enthusiasm • Rather harness their potential
Show Rotaract respect • Rotary needs these young people to continue the Rotary family • Unfortunately our conversion rate from Rotaract to Rotary is pretty poor • Rotary Clubs either ignore them or alternatively insist on controlling them
What is Interact? Service club for young people ages 12 to 18 They are sponsored by individual Rotary clubs Require a dedicated Rotarian, School Principal and Teacher Matching grants are possible but need good motivation and control There are more than 10,700 clubs in 109 countries ± 200,000 young people are involved in Interact

What is NGE? New Generation Exchanges19-25 year old Mini GSE which is self funded but is not part of Foundation Similar to Friendship Exchange Three weeks to three months Ideal for recent secondary school graduates Can include homestays, tours, camps, or specialized internships
Sexual Abuse and Harassment Every Rotarian involved with Youth must sign an affidavit declaring that they have never been involved in sexual abuse It sounds onerous and invasive but is vital Host Parents must sign the document as well
