Overview Teacher: Mr. Baez Course: World Geography Classroom Location: Building 3 Room 324 School Phone Number: (305) 252-5900 Jorge Mas Canosa Middle School can be accessed through Dade County Public Schools website - www.dadeschools.net Teachers’ Goal for the year: To educate students with the basic concepts and skills of world Geography in an healthy and successful learning environment. Students’ Goal for the year: To obtain an extensive amount of basic and useful information that is required for you to learn by the State of Florida and myself.

  3. Classroom Rules. To be on time you must be in your assigned seat when the bell ring. Raise your hand when you have something to say or a question to ask If you need to get out of your seat for ANY reason, you must raise your hand first and ask for permission. No food, drinks or candy allowed in the classroom. All the school rules that can be found in our Agenda Book are also to be followed in this classroom as well, no exception ! Failure to abide by the rules will result in a strict and consistent disciplinary action. Bad Good

  6. Be Ready. Every Day. Supplies needed Everyday: You must bring a pen or a pencil every day to class. Your notebooks ! Every student is required to have 2 composition notebooks for class. One will be used for Q & A - CNN Facts and the other will be used for class notes. Yourself. Come to class ready to learn and ready to participate in our daily activities.

  7. Classroom Procedures. At the start of each class, there will be a Question or Activity posted on the front board. You should enter the room and begin answering the question or completing the activity immediately. This question and answer is to be recorded in your composition book. You must write the date, copy the question and write your answer. Your composition book will be checked for a grade, at the teachers’ discretion.

  8. Classroom Procedures. Current Events. A vital part of our everyday activity will be watching a 10 minutes news segment called “CNN Student News”. You will watch the news and write 3 facts that you remembered from the segment. There will be a brief class discussion about the day’s events. Current Events facts are to be kept in your notebook in chronological order and are graded every time there is a notebook check.

  9. Classroom Procedures. During each class, we will begin a new section in our textbook. This is an opportunity for you to read aloud the section we will be studying and working on for the day. Students will be called upon randomly to read aloud, so make sure you are paying attention. Section reviews. After each class reading and class notes, you will be given an opportunity to show what you learned. In each section review, there will be terms that are to be defined and questions about the section that are to be answered.

  10. Classroom Procedures. Class work and Home Learning. Class work assignments will be turned in before class is released for the day. Homework will be assigned at the end of class and are to be turned in the following class before the tardy bell. You need to write down your homework in your Agenda book. Class work and homework assignments may include section reviews, handouts, projects and/or group work. If you do not complete a home learning assignment you must fill out the “Home Learning Excuse Note” and turn this in. Make-Up work will be on the Make-up board and must be returned no later than one week after your absence.

  11. Classroom Procedures. Quizzes. Quizzes are given at the end of each chapter to see what each student has learned. (fill in the blank, true and false and short and extended responses. Tests. Tests may be a chapter test or a unit test. In addition, a midterm and a final exam will be given.

  12. Classroom Procedures. Grading. Your grade will include, but is not limited to: tests, quizzes, home learning, class work, class participation, notebooks checks…You will be informed of the weight of each assignment or test when they are assigned.

  13. Classroom Procedures. Bathroom passes. One person at a time will be allowed to use the restroom. You must also have your Agenda book with you to use the restroom. When you leave to use the restroom, you must sign out on the “Restroom log”. Each student will only have two restroom passes allowed each nine-week period. If you have already used your two passes, do not attempt to leave the room or ask for permission.

The bell doesn’t dismiss anyone from class, the teacher does by indicating when you are able to leave. The class will be dismissed if everyone is in their assigned seats, there is no trash on the floor and the rows are straight.
