Representatives from RLP institutions and RLP program officers met for a workshop in Baltimore, MD, USA in October 2017.
Recap from ALA Annual Goal: evaluate WorldCat MARC-to-BIBFRAME data using the LC converter What was learned? • Work IDs are very important, useful at the beginning of the process • URIs are very important, blank-nodes = non-interoperable • OCLC working with bib records = little item/instance data
Current OCLC Research activities Goal: create a usable graph of BIBFRAME data for end-user testing What was done? • Hash URIs replacing blank nodes • Removed extra entity properties that already have VIAF or FAST • Reviewed BIBFRAME administrative data • Tested graph modifications on set of WorldCat records
Now what? OCLC Research shared info with Global Product Management A path forward depends on answering questions about… • Workflows • Use cases • Desired outcomes/services
Going forward What are the needs and expectations of the community? • What is important? (identifier sources, conversion options, quality, etc.) • How do you evaluate the data? (API, download, export, etc.) • What should be enhanced? • What is the cataloging workflow within WorldCat? • What is needed for the MARC and BIBFRAME environment?
Working with member libraries Working with RLP members • Focus groups • Requirement gathering • Desired workflows • Hands-on workflow development Working with member libraries and groups such as the PCC, OCLC Metadata Initiatives Advisory Group, MOUG, OLAC, OCLC CJK Users Group, etc.
Framing BIBFRAME @ OCLC oc.lc/bibframe-interest bibframe@oclc.org Looking towards ALA Annual, Washington, D.C. • Working with RLP members on next steps • Seeking feedback from member libraries
