  2. All goals are based on data from the 2009-2010 school year.

  3. LITERACY

  4. Literacy Strengths 77.25% students have passed the state reading test. CHS scores are above state and local averages. All teachers are supported by literacy coaches and are being trained in Reading Apprenticeship —a program that emphasizes specific reading/ thinking skills for all disciplines. CHS targets struggling students and offers specific support classes to increase their reading skills.

  5. Areas that Need Improvement • Literacy scores of students in special education decreased 7% below 2009 scores. • Only 36% of students have passed the state writing assessment. CHS writing scores are below state and local averages. • Scores of English Language Learners (ELL) missed the target for growth on both reading and writing tests.

  6. Literacy goals for the2010-2011 school year

  7. Goal 1 80% of all students will meet and/or exceed standards on the state OAKS reading assessment for 2010-11 year. Plan of attack: Provide reading support classes All teachers are being trained in Reading Apprenticeship. Literacy coaches are available to assist staff.

  8. Goal 2 Reduce the achievement gap between all students and designated sub-group categories by 10% in the 2010-2011 year. Plan of attack: Provide reading support classes All teachers are being trained in Reading Apprenticeship. Students in ELL are taught in core content classes with all general education students. Writing assignments are scored according to the state standards.

  9. MATH

  10. Math Strengths 72.5% students have passed the state math test. CHS scores are above state and local averages. All staff are supported by math coaches. CHS targets struggling students and offers specific support classes.

  11. Areas that Need Improvement Math scores of students in special education decreased 15% below 2009 scores. Scores of English Language Learners (ELL) missed the target for growth on math tests.

  16. Behavior and AttendanceStrengths • 8.4% decrease in referrals/incidents (down 175 from last year to 1892) • Over half of disciplinary incidents are non-physical. (59.1% are attendance related)

  17. Areas that Need Improvement • 46.6% of incidents are committed by 9th graders. • 59.1% of incidents are attendance related. • The percentage of incidents is higher among ethnic groups.

Goal By the end of the 2010-2011 school year, we will develop a systematic process of academic and behavioral intervention for students as measured by reduction in student discipline incidents and the number of students not on track to graduate. • Plan of attack: • Evaluate multiple diploma options • Create a tiered intervention system • Review effectiveness of academic and behavioral plans for identified students

  21. Areas that Need Improvement • 45.9% of students earned a 2.75 GPA or better in all classes (794 of 1728) • 30% of students earned a 2.75 GPA or better in core classes (528 of 1728)

  22. College and career readiness goal for the 2010-2011 school year

  23. Goal By June 2014, 70% of the cohort class pursuing a standard diploma will have met the standards of college readiness as defined as a 3.0 GPA in 15 core subjects by the end of the eighth semester. • Plan of attack: • Data will be collected after each semester tracking the GPA for core courses. • Each student will have an Individual Plan for post high school pursuits and will create a portfolio suitable for college applications.
