First Floor of Old Station • Men's waiting room at the South end. • Women’s waiting room on the North end. • Between the two was a ticket office that was on the river side of the building. • The opposite side of the ticket office are two waiting rooms that have toilets in each.
Second Floor of Old Station • There are stairs that lead to a hall that brings you to the doors of offices. • At the North End was the Superintendent’s office. • Clerk’s room • Train Dispatchers room • At the south end there was a office for the road masters office.
Baggage Building • One Story High • This building contained a boiler room at the North End • The baggage area took most of the space up. • This building also contained side entrances on each side.
Exterior • This shows the exterior texture of the new station
Exterior of Building • Lower eight feet and four inches of both buildings made of stone, this brings the stone walls all the way up to the window sills. • Above the stone walls is brick with stone trimming. • The roof is steep. • Height of building approx. 30 ft.
Unique Designs • Half timbered construction: -building has exposed wood trimming with plaster brick or stone filled in between them -a design used in medieval times
Unique Designs cont. • Oriel Windows: -window that projects from wall -located on the river side of the building
Unique designs cont. • Dormer -window that is set vertically on a sloping roof -contains its own roof -located on backside of building
Summary • The old Mankato railroad station used adaptive reuse and turned into the new depot station, the old architectural designs were transformed into newer ones but the concept and style of the building itself remained the same.
