Hopis Hopis mean “peaceful ones". They also never fought other tribes. Shelter Hopis live in pueblos built on top of flat mesas. They use their homes for sleeping. The family lives in one room. The pueblos protects the family from bad weather. The house multiple floors. The Hopis use ladders to go up and down the floors. They have an outdoor oven using clay and coals. Caption box
Hopis Food The men hunt and farm. Some are beans, squash, and corn. The women grounded corn into flour. Then the flour is stored in jars. Some are bake into bread at the outdoor oven. Culture Hopis believe in gods of rain, earth, and sun. There is also spirits called Kachina. Kachina have powers and names that families taught their children. Hopis have ceremonies. Navajos Navajos were nomads. There had no chief. The Navajos attack the Hopis for baskets,looms,and farming tools. Then they learned from the Hopis way of lifestyle. They farmed and made cotton clothing. Shelter The Navajos use to make shelter out of brushwood,animal skin,and leaves for new shelters while they travel and hunt. They made real homes called Hogan. Hogans were made by using wooden frames and grass or mud. The Navajos never had real villages. They were build miles part.
Navajos Food They planted and farm corn. They also planted squash and beans. The Navajos also hunt animals for food. Cultures The Navajos believe in gods called holy people.
