  2. What will your child learn this year? Art at Tonawanda Middle School follows the New York State Standards for the Visual Arts. All of the lessons taught will be based on the following NYS standards: Standard 1 - Creating & Performing in the Arts Students will be creating 2 & 3 dimensional works of art. Standard 2 - Knowing & Using Art Materials & Resources Students will use and learn about different mediums and resources. Standard 3 - Responding to & Analyzing Works of Art Students will learn how to “read” and understand visual art. Standard 4 - Understanding the Cultural Dimensions & Contributions of the Arts Students will learn about art from cultures of the past and present

  3. How is my child graded in art? Overall averages are broken into the following categories: - Art Projects (70%) - Quizzes/Other Assignments (20%) - Participation (%10)

  4. What art projects will your students be working on this year in art?

  5. Yearbook Cover/Design Students will design the cover for the 2012-2013 Tonawanda Middle School Memory Book. This year students will create a cover influenced by artist Eric Joyner.

  6. Altered Books Students will study and create their own altered book.

  7. Corning/Dale Chihuly Students will be taking a field trip to the Corning Museum of Glass! For this unit, students will study artist Dale Chihuly and create a class project that resembles one of his famous glass pieces.

  8. Drawing Skills Students will work on their drawing skills by creating a contour line self-portrait.

  9. It’s going to be a FANTASTIC semester in art!
