  1. Lab Equipment

  2. 1. Beaker • Used for stirring, heating, mixing liquids; does not measure volumes precisely.

  3. 2. Test tube clamp • for holding a test tube which is too hot to handle.

  4. 3. Erlenmeyer flask • hold solids or liquids that may release gases during a reaction or that are likely to splatter if stirred or heated

  5. 4. Wash bottle • delivers distilled water to a specific area

  6. 5. Funnel • used to aid in transfer of liquid from one vessel to another

  7. 6. Wire gauze • sits on top of the iron ring to provide a place to put glassware

  8. 7. Glass stir rod • used to manually stir solutions.

  9. 8. Spatula • used to dispense solid chemicals from their containers.

  10. 9. Thermometer • used to take temperature of liquids

  11. 10. Scoopula • used to dispense solid chemicals from their containers.

  12. 11. pH meter • used to take pH of solution

  13. 12. Well plate • used to perform microscale reactions

  14. 13. Bunsen burner • used for the heating of nonvolatile liquids and solids.

  15. 14. Evaporating dish • used to heat and evaporate liquids

  16. 15. Watch glass • used to hold a small amount of solid or to cover a beaker to prevent splashing

  17. 16. Ring stand • used with various clamps to give support for labware

  18. 17. Ring clamp • connects to a ringstand and provide a stable, elevated platform for the reaction.

  19. 18. Utility clamp • used to secure test tubes, distillation columns, and burets to the ringstand.

  20. 19. Volumetric flask • Glassware used for the mixing and preparing certain volumes of solutions. Only has one calibration mark.

  21. 20. Graduated cylinder • used to measure volumes of liquids

  22. 21. Pipet • used to transfer a small volume of liquid

  23. 22. Tongs • Used for handling small, hot objects. NOT to be used for picking up beakers!

  24. 23. Hot plate • used for the heating of substances without the use of a flame

  25. 24. Electronic balance • Used to obtain a mass; has varying degrees of precision

  26. 25. Triple beam balance • to measure mass manually (to hundredths place)

  27. 26. Test tube rack • holding and organizing test tubes on the laboratory counter.

  28. 27. Test tubes • hold, mix, or heat small quantities of solid or liquid chemicals

  29. 28. Mortar & pestle • used to crush, grind, and mix solid substances

  30. 29. Rubber stopper • Used to close containers to avoid spillage or contamination. Containers should never be heated when there is a stopper in place.

  31. 30. Buret • Used to deliver solution in precisely-measured, variable volumes. Primarily for titration.
