  2. An Introduction to theKonkan Railway Project Konkan Railway, as you are all aware is a 760-kilometer long broad gauge railway line connecting Mumbai to Mangalore along the West Coast of the country. This line passes through one of the most difficult terrains ever encountered in the history of railway construction in this country. In the seven years that it took to finish the construction of the rail line between Roha and Mangalore, the Konkan Railway project had to face many problems. But the most challenging job on this railway project was not the technical hurdles facing the project but raising the funds for the development.

  3. An Introduction to the Konkan Railway Project That was the first time that the railways decided that the Konkan Railway project should be constructed with borrowed money. The Railways was prepared to give only one-third of the cost of the project and two-thirds of the cost had to be raised from the market on a BOT basis – Build, Operate and Transfer basis. With government’s minimal participation in funding, most of the funds required for the project came from private agencies.
