How We Learn In the Foundation Stage we make learning as active and as fun as possible! • Child initiated learning: Children learn through self chosen, independent activities • Adult directed learning: Children learn through focused activities set up by an adult • Adult led learning: Children learn through directed sessions with an adult

Getting Ready For School • Please teach your child how to go to the toilet on their own and to wash their hands afterwards. • Please teach your child to share and take turns. Many of the activities your child will do in school will be in groups and it is really important that they are both able to work with other children and know that they won’t always be chosen first.
Getting Ready for Reading Albert Einstein “If you want your children to be intelligent, read them fairy tales. If you want them to be more intelligent, read them more fairy tales.” • Your child will need to bring a book bag to school with them everyday. They will begin to learn their letter sounds, then progress onto books. • There will be a parent workshop on phonics and learning to read in September.
Getting Ready For Writing • Please give your child plenty of opportunities to draw and make marks • Always correct your child’s pencil grip • If ready, try writing their name – tracing over a light coloured pen works well, capital letter at the beginning only and always correct letter formation!
Getting Ready For PE • Please remember to label all your child’s PE kit, daps and bag with their name. • PE kit – white t-shirt, black shorts or tracksuit bottoms and daps and spare named underwear. • PE kits should be in school everyday and are sent home termly to wash • Please encourage their child to dress themselves.
Getting Ready For Lunch • From September 2014 every child age 7 and under is entitled to a free school lunch. There is a choice of main dinner, veggie option, jacket potato or school packed lunch – see menu • Or their own packed lunch from home in a named lunchbox
Water • Please provide your child with a clear water bottle with their name on. Only water is allowed in the classroom. • Drinking throughout the day is really important and quick access to a water bottle is essential.
Snacktime • The government provide free milk for all children under the age of 5. • Children in Reception and Key Stage 1 receive a free piece of fruit every day to eat at snacktime. • Tuckshop Mondays and Fridays. (50p in named envelope or purse) Freddos on a Friday.
School Uniform • Boys: Red jumper, white/red polo shirt, black or grey trousers/shorts & dark shoes. • Girls: Red jumper or cardigan, white polo shirt, black or grey trousers or skirt/shorts & dark shoes. • Please name EVERYTHING! • Scholarsand Tesco.
The First Few Weeks • Week 1 Weds 5th – Fri 7th Sept Mornings only 8:45-12:00 Afternoon – Mrs Stone - Parent 1:1 meetings and home visits • Week 2 Mon 10th - Fri 14th Mornings & lunch 8.45 – 13.30 • Afternoon – Mrs Stone - Parent 1:1 meetings and home visits • Week 3 Mon 17th- Fri 21stFull time 8:45-15:15 • This is a quick introduction to school and is by no means set in stone! If your child needs part-time for longer we are flexible, and will work around your child’s needs. Please discuss your thoughts with Mrs Stone during parent meeting or home visit.

Reasons to keep your child off school We follow the ‘Guidance on infection control in Schools’ Vomiting & diahorrea – 48 hrs from onset High temperature – until under control Impetigo/Chicken pox – until crusted over Measles – minimum 4 days Mumps – minimum 5 days Whooping cough – 5 days from start of antibiotics Scarlett fever – 24 hrs from start of antibiotics If we have any concerns about your child we will contact you immediately using the telephone numbers you have provided us with.
Keeping your child safe We take keeping the children safe in our care at Corsham Regis very seriously. Every adult in school has a DBS check. All the staff (including assistants and dinner staff) have up-to-date child protection training. If we have any concerns about your child, it is our duty of care to report this to our Designated Safeguarding Lead. At Corsham Regis this is Mr Spicer, Headteacher and in his absence, Mrs Morris, MrsMcCrum or Mrs Woodall. They will then decide whether parents or any other agencies need to be informed.

Pupil Premium Funding Pupil Premium is additional funding for the school to use to support the progress of children that the government considers to be in the most need. The school decides how to best spend this money. It is our statutory obligation to report on how we spend it and our reasons for doing so. Reports can be found on our website. Each successful application is worth £1,320 to the school. Further details of eligibility and an application form can be found in your packs.
