  5. BMI • Body Mass Index – Ratio that allows you to assess your body size in relation to your height and weight • Charts take gender and age into account • There is no single size or shape that is normal for everyone

How Tall Are You In Inches? • 4 feet = 48 inches • 5 feet = 60 inches • 5” 2’ = 62 inches • 5” 4’ = 64 inches • 5” 6’ = 66 inches • 5” 8’ = 68 inches • 5” 10’ = 70 inches • 6 feet = 72 inches Remember: 1 foot = 12 inches So to calculate multiply feet by 12 and then add the inches If you are 5” 3’: 5 x 12 = 60 60 + 3 = 63 inches tall

  8. Overweight vs. Obesity • Overweight – a condition in which a person is heavier than the standard weight range for his or her height • Obesity – having an excess amount of body fat

  9. Healthy Weight Loss Strategies • Instead of 2,000 calories eat 1,700 to 1,800 • Include your favorites in moderation • Eat a variety of low-calorie, nutrient dense foods • Drink plenty of water • Increase physical activity • You should only lose about a pound a week
