Significant Events of the Texas Revolution • Battle of Gonzales • Battle of Alamo • Convention of 1836 • Goliad Massacre • Battle of San Jacinto
Convention of 1836 • Washington on the Brazos • Texans set up government while Santa Anna was delayed at the Alamo • George Childress wrote the Declaration of Independence • Texans wanted to leave and help at the convention but Sam Houston said that setting up a government was more important.
Goliad Massacre • Fannin and more than 300 men were captured. • The captives were told that they would be released. • The Mexican army killed Fannin and the captives.
Runaway Scrape • After the fall of the Alamo, Santa Anna began traveling through Texas towns spreading fear. • Mass movement of Texans fleeing to the North was named the “Runaway Scrape”
San Jacinto • Texans are eager for battle • Houston destroys Vince’s Bridge • Santa Anna believed the Texans would attack in the morning. • By afternoon Santa Anna believed Texans would not attack so he allowed his men to take a siesta.
San Jacinto - The Attack • Mexican army was caught off guard by the attack. • “Remember the Alamo! Remember Goliad!” • Texans showed little mercy on Mexican army.
Aftermath • The Mexican army surrendered • Santa Anna escaped through the marsh land and was later taken prisoner of war.
Treaty of Velasco • Treaty of Velasco set Rio Grande as the border between Texas and Mexico
