East Arm Port Access Road Stage 2 – Tiger Brennan Drive Extension
The project has three major stages: • Stage 1 - Berrimah Road Duplication – Value $10M • Stage 2 - Tiger Brennan Drive Extension -Value $89M • Stage 3 - Berrimah Road Railway Overpass –Value $11M
The Interchange This road will improve safety, reduce travelling time and ease traffic congestion for the 36,000 cars travelling between Palmerston, Darwin and the Rural Areas every day. The interchange was also designed and built for the future, so that the 92,500 cars per day predicted for 2031 can travel efficiently.
DUMP TRUCKS Machinery ROLLER EARTH MOVER EXCAVATOR MULCHER
The dump trucks are the biggest machinery on this project. They weigh 100tonne when fully loaded – or 75 small cars.
Roadworks: The construction of the road called for the movement of 600,000 tonnes of dirt.
Roadworks • 600,000 t of dirt = 300,000 Elephants!
Explosives Overall 73.5 tonnes of explosives were used! The police had to be notified during some of the blasting so that they did not think that it was someone trying to escape from the prison which backs onto the extension of Tiger Brennan Drive.
What is actually being built? When it has all been completed there will be: • Two road overpass bridges • A pedestrian and cyclist bridge • And also many smaller structures.
Bridges It takes 1750m3 Concrete per bridge That’s equal to 25 Swimming Pools
Completion Stage two of the project which is the Tiger Brennan Extension and the much anticipated overpass; is scheduled for completion by the end of 2010.
