  2. Why I chose my topic • I have been affected by an eating disorder • My aunt has battled with anorexia • My mom and her four sisters all have minor self-esteem issues

  3. Research question & problem • Research Question • What are common characteristics and attitudes of those who are addicted and/or obsessed to the perfect body image? How do these characteristics effect the extremes humans go to to reach their ideals? • Research Problem • I predicted attitudes will be negative and self-esteem and hormones will play a role. I also predicted that many humans will go out of their way to reach their ideals.

  4. Instrumentsused • Survey • 36 participants • 7th grade – 12th grade • 20 males & 16 females • Interview • 3 participants • 2 females ages 19 & 49 • 1 male age 19

  5. IntriguingResults Results of the effects of high school students seeing skinny female models and very fit males.The percentage showing is the percent affected.

  6. Continued…. This pie chart shows that high school males tend to have a slightly higher self-esteem than females. The average for males was 7.3, and for females the average was 6.8.

  7. Continued… This bar graph shows the percent of high school students who often feel overweight. The percentages shown are the percent of students who feel overweight.
