Taiga Biome Research By: Cody Allen 2nd period
TaigaGeography & Climate • Rivers-streams • Plains and mountains coniferous forest • Climate • Winter LOWEST temperature in taiga -65 f • Summer LOWEST temperature in taiga 30f
TaigaBiodiversity • There are 364 species of animals in the Russian taiga but the total number is not known • There are a lot of species of animals like the red deer, elk, lynx, ermine, Siberian tiger, moose, and Kodiak brown bear • Plants – evergreen trees and some flowering plants http://www.blueplanetbiomes.org/
TaigaAdaptations Needed for Survival • The lynx’s feet are made like snowshoes to help them chase their prey in deep snow with out sinking in the snow • Evergreen trees are made to be able to hold up snow and not break limbs
TaigaInteractions of Biotic and Abiotic Biotic- Snow helps the ermine camouflage its self during the winter Abiotic- melted snow can help trees get nutrients they need to survive
What is Biodiversity? • Biodiversity is the variety of organisms in an ecosystem
How does biodiversity contribute to the sustainability of an ecosystem? • Use the handout given in class to answer the above question • Biodiversity contributes to the ecosystem because if there were no organisms such as no deer or elk the predators would have to leave and with no predators the rodent population would grow all the grasses and plants would be gone no food the mice then they would all start dying and then the ecosystem would be destroyed
