Facts • Fires are very common in the taiga biome, These fires help rid the area of old and sick trees. • There is not much variety in plants, the are lots of conifer trees which is why the taiga is referred to as the coniferous forest. • The trees are known as “evergreen” meaning they stay green all year.
Human Influences • logging destroys habitat and cover for animals and also leads to soil erosion. • -however it can create useful new open habitats for the animals to feed in. • Oil and Gas exploration, This industry disrupts the living species in many ways. • -species hunting
Plants & Animals/ Adaptations • Cone pine trees- yearly green, shelter. • Jack pine- their branches and leaves shape differently due to weather • Tamarack- root system and shed needles • Snowshoe hares- fur changes due to weather (white) • Foxes- sharp claws to dig • Elk- have large antler, shed and change color.
