ARIES-TNS Technical Working Group: Tritium Management. Starting Assumptions (TBD):.
E N D
ARIES-TNS Technical Working Group:Tritium Management Starting Assumptions (TBD): • ITER fuel plant experience (design and operations) applies to TNS in key technologies:- power-plant demonstrative scale of inventory and throughput - some experience with in-vessel inventory control - TEP with permeators/TCAP - ISS with cyro-distillation - short-term storage and delivery; long-term storage - machine and fuel plant ventilation cleanup (pending…) - adequate compliance with stringent environmental release limits • TNS will transition from T consumer to T producer (above breakeven) in technically-driven time frame rather than supply-limited • Not necessary to rely on existing technologies (i.e. some reliance on concept advancement… substantial impact on TNS timeframe…) • Others???
TNS Tritium Management Issues Listing(initial thoughts, panel to discuss): • Blanket T inventory and recovery - full scale, complete blanket with multi-physics effects - uncharacterized fundamental properties for some initially attractive concepts - substantial quantities of activation (corrosion) products must be handled in blanket systems • Impact on in-vessel T inventory from PFC design options - dust/debris retention and cleanup - irradiation effects • Additional challenges to fuel plant - added cleanup load from full blanket (external interfaces and ventilation) - regulatory burden of proof • Others???
