Booklet on MSK Disorders and Injuries BJD GLOBAL NETWORK CONFERENCE October 23 – 24, 2009, WASHINGTON DC, USA Key interactions with ISC, other NANs, regional groups, governments BJD Trans-Australia Campaign by Disabled Cyclist For the 3rd year transcontinental campaign, Mr. Shinji Kazama, who is a Japanese world famous motorcyclist and adventurer and has a shorter leg for a severe fracture at Dakar Rally 2004, chose Australia(Fig.2). Three disabled Japanese volunteers, two males and one female with an artificial leg or knee joint or hemiparesis, started Perth on 28th August for Sydney 5,000 km away. Two of them by turn ride ca. 100 km a day and Mr. Kazama or a Japanese orthopaedic surgeon escorts them (Fig 3, 4). On the way, they have visited hospitals such as trauma centers in Perth and Adelaide and are scheduled, by way of Melbourne,to arrive at Sydney on 17th October. Their endeavor to accomplish the journey, while making up each one's handicaps, should be a matchless opportunity to appeal the importance of musculoskeletal functions and to promote the public awareness toward it (Fig 5).
