Purpose: To provide the larger OTG learning community with an update on progress to date regarding the on-time graduation status for seniors and continuing seniors (FGY 2015 and 2014)
Status Update: Seniors and Continuing Seniors in the Red • 7 continuing seniors (FGY 2014) • 2 Special Ed (one GOAL, one PBS and at Phoenix House) • All others have plan and making progress toward graduation this year • ALL have had difficulties with attendance • Two have had significant law enforcement involvement • At least 3 have had significant issues with drugs and/or alcohol • At least 3 have qualified in the past or are qualified for KIT • K’s Story (Laura)
Status Update: Seniors and Continuing Seniors in the Red • 51 in class of 2014 in the Red • Significant number have had home lives that include chaos (violence, frequent moves, drugs/alcohol, gang involvement, general instability) that has interfered with students attendance and focus at school • Some have supportive, stable families and support at school, yet still fail to thrive • 28/51 are low income • 10 are Latino • 3 are on 504 plans • 6 are in Special Education • 3 are in ELL • V’s Story (Robert)
New Science Assessment Requirement • 50 students have not met standard • 20 of these are in the Red • 11 are in ELL • 11 are in Special Education • “The Twins” (Cathy)
