Cholera • Transmission to humans occurs through ingesting contaminated water of food. • If bacteria reach the small intestine, they multiply and secrete a toxin, Cholerage, which disrupts the functions of the epithelium so that salts and water leave the blood causing diarrhoea. Vibrio cholerae is caused of cholera.
