ACT’s Condition of College and Career Readiness Education – Top 5 fastest growing career fields • 17% of all job openings in 2020 • 7% of 2012 high school seniors indicated interest Computer/Information Specialties – Top 5 fastest growing career fields • 11% of all job openings in 2020 • 2% of 2012 high school seniors indicated interest

  12. What are employers saying? According to a new Deloitte Study, 67% of manufacturers report a shortage of skilled workers Over half of those believe that shortage will become worse in the next 3 -5 years The National Association of Manufacturing survey in 2011 reported 80% of manufacturers could not find workers for their skilled production jobs – 600,000 open jobs

  13. Workforce Initiatives at ACT • Use the data and analytics to help formulate solutions to workforce challenges • Form partnerships with industry associations • NAM – The Manufacturing Institute • CEWD • NCCER Partnerships

  14. Partnering with Manufacturing • Skills gap • Employers worked with the Manufacturing Institute and with the President’s Council on Jobs and Competitiveness to develop Right Skills Now! • Fast Track training to fill specific skills gaps Right Skills Now! rightskillsnow.org

  15. Partnering with Manufacturing • Participants earn college credit • Many are sponsored by employers to participate • Internships are part of this program • In sixteen weeks, participants were ready to be placed in jobs…many had offers before they had completed the program! Right Skills Now!

Partnering with Manufacturing • Currently piloting in Minnesota, Nevada and soon in Michigan • Curriculum has a modular design – started for CNC operators but easily adaptable to welding, aerospace and other factory skills • Curriculum designed by employers and the Manufacturing Institute • Participants earn college credit and industry credentials including the National Career Readiness Certificate • Over 100,000 participants over the next few years Right Skills Now!

Workforce Initiatives at ACT • Designed by ACT and key community college presidents • Improve America’s workforce by providing evidence-based selection tools • NCRC Plus for 20 employees/applicants for up to 20 employers • Community or Regional ‘champions’ to organize groups of employers Tomorrow’s Workforce Now!

Our nation faces high unemployment even as employers struggle to find the right people to fill jobs What’s behind this disconnect? • Employers need evidence-based tools to predict job performance • Job seekers need to know the shortest path to a good job It’s time for a solution. You can be part of the solution.

Workforce Initiatives at ACT • ACT provides the assessments and registrations for examinees • Examinees will be eligible for the NCRC Plus • Community Champion provides the ‘seat time’ for testing • Employers provide the applicants/incumbent employees • Employers complete Supervisor Survey – critical to validating the use in personnel selection Tomorrow’s Workforce Now!

Workforce Initiatives at ACT • Introduce employers to this evidence-based selection tools • Bring together Community Colleges, Career and Technology Centers, local employer groups, economic and workforce development agencies and other education and training agencies • Support existing partnerships between those agencies • Provide individuals a clear path to a good job • Use the data collected to provide validity evidence for the WorkKeys portfolio of solutions Tomorrow’s Workforce Now!

Troops to EnergyCEWD program to train returning veterans in energy jobs • EXPLORE – In-demand jobs that have advancement opportunities • ASSESS – Transferable skills that for jobs that align with career interests • IDENTIFY – Education, training and credentialing requirements and education providers who can help earn them • UTILIZE – Career tools and supports to help accelerate transitions to the energy industry

Get Skills to WorkA brand new initiative to help veterans • Just announced this week • Partnership between employers and industry associations • Virtual Military Matching Badges • Uses internet technology to translate Military experience to civilian job opportunities • Makes it easier for employers to understand how the skills demonstrated in the military transfer to advanced manufacturing • Use Right Skills Now to provide just in time training
