History of Europe • The first evidence of Humans was 35 000 BC • Europeans first started to raise livestock and farm 7000BC. • Population growth was slow because the people were reluctant to give up the hunter and gatherer life. • The move to agriculture was hard, but a lot more reliable. • Life was tough, the land was covered in trees and buildings needed to be built. • Slowly humans populated the continent
Life of the Early Europeans • Many kingdoms developed from these early civilizations. • Towns and villages developed all throughout Europe. Many distinct cultures, from Greek, Roman, Norse, French and German.
First Nation and European Comparison • They lived much like the First Nations, but evolved at a much quicker rate. • A larger population of people lived in Europe • They had much more advanced civilizations and technology
European Lifestyle • There were two main types of people in Europe. The nobility and the poor. The nobility were the kings, queens, lords and knights. They had money and • The poor /serfs worked to survive but worked for the nobility.
European Lifestyle • Many wars and crusades were being fought over land and religion. • Knights and nobles were thought of as • The majority of the population were workers. They made enough money to maybe feed their families and pay taxes to the Nobility.
Jobs of the Poor • Farmers • Bakers • Blacksmiths • Builders • Masons • Clergy • Weavers • Inns and Bars • Mill Worker
Age of Exploration • The renaissance was a time that brought exploration and growth in Europe. • People challenged traditional teaching and many great achievements were being made. • New discoveries in both land and ideas were happening.
European Powers • Many countries or kingdoms in Europe wanted to accumulate power and wealth. • In order to do that, they needed to acquire land and resources.
Acquiring Weatlh and Power • If you wanted land, you either went out exploring for new lands and claiming them for your country • Or you fought other countries for their land.
Wealth and Power • Countries achieved power and wealth based on how much money they had and by how much land they controlled. • The land provided each country with wealth. You mined for gold, silver, jewels, etc. • You gathered resources and sold them to others. Ie- lumber, fish, fur. • The more money and land you owned, the more powerful you were.
The struggle for number one. • Countries were constantly at war, each wanted to be the most powerful country. • Each country wanted all and were not afraid to fight for it. • The more money you had, the larger you could build your army.
Exploration • There was a big push to go and explore new lands. • Kings wanted more land, more resources and new discoveries. • They also wanted to find easier trade routes to other countries.
