Germany in World War I and World War II The great war, World War I, officially began on June 28, 1914 and lasted till November 11, 1918, with the treaty of Versailles. The two sides of the war consisted of the allied forces of France, Great Britain, Russia, the United States of America, and other smaller countries, against Germany, Austria-Hungry, Turkey/Ottoman Empire, and smaller countries. World War II was undoubtedly the most deadly war in the history of humanity. Germany with their Nazi leader, Adolf Hitler, was the country that is most responsible for starting the war. World War II officially began on September 1, 1939, and the Germans surrendered on May 15, 1945. The members of the war were like in World War I- France, Great Britain, Russia, and the United States of America, although they also had to fight against their former allies, Italy and Japan, which joined the Nazi Army.
