There Is A Generation Proverbs 30:11-14
Generations come and go and differ greatly (Eccl. 1:4) • Generations are defined by inward character and outward circumstances • Generation “gaps” exist only when godly principles are not passed down Generation After Generation
Some children are disrespectful to their parents (v.11) • Parents should make this a priority as God does (Ex. 20:12; 21:17; Deut. 21:18-21; Prov. 20:20; 23:22; 30:17; 1 Tim. 5:4,8) • Disobedient children sin (Rom. 1:30; 2 Tim. 3:2) • These need to learn honor (Eph. 6:1-4) The Disrespectful Generation
Some believe they are pure and right regardless of how they live (v.12) • God’s standard, not man’s standard shows one to be pure (Prov. 16:2,25; 20:9; 21:2; Jer. 2:22-23,35; 10:23) • Self-righteousness is self-blinding (Mt. 15:14; Lk. 18:11; Rom. 2:19; Rev. 3:17-18) • The need to learn repentance (Acts 3:19) The Self-Righteous Generation
Some believe they are better than others and God himself (v.13) • God hates pride (Prov. 6:16-17; 8:13; 21:4) • The high will be brought low (Prov. 16:18; 18:12; 29:23; Dan. 4:30-33; Jas. 4:6) • These need to learn humility (1 Pet. 5:6) The Proud Generation
Some turn to cruelty, oppression, and violence to get their way (v. 14) • God’s way is not the way of violence (Lk. 3:14; Mt. 5:39; 26:52) • Violence is a sin (Jas. 2:6; 5:5-6) • They need to learn gentleness, peace, and compassion (Gal. 5:22-23) The Violent Generation
Some refuse to be led by the world; they are a generation chosen of God (1 Pet. 1:1; 2:9) They obey the truth (1:22) They show forth God’s virtue (2:10) A Chosen Generation
A generation who knows not God (Judg. 2:10) • A crooked generation (Acts 2:40) • What kind of generation will we prove to be? Our Generation?
