  1. Splitter module qualificationdue to design changes

  2. Splitter module Splitter component Fiber input Fiber output

  3. Splitter component Adhesive Adhesive Input Fiber Array Output Fiber Array Splitter chip Splitter housing

  4. Optical SplitterPossible major modifications Scenarios: • PLC chip • Input Fiber array • Output Fiber array The housing structure and interface adhesives remain the same The qualification tests are performed at the component, not module, level The combination of a fiber array (input or output) and PLC chip will be treated as a new device, and will be qualified as option A in the splitter/module design changes

  5. All required optical measurements include • Optical band-pass from 1260 to 1625 nm • Insertion loss • Uniformity (derived from the insertion loss measurement) • Return loss of the input port • Directivity • Polarization Dependent Loss all at 1310nm, 1490 nm, 1550nm, 1625nm • Polarization Mode Dispersion at 1550nm (due to lack of calibration standards at the other wavelengths)

  6. Qualification due to Fiber Array change (scenarios 2 and 3)input and/or output fiber array • 7 1x32 and 7 1x16 splitters for each group (component level) • 11 units for each group if a single product is qualified • Initial characterization • Insertion loss • Qualification per GR 1221 groups B and E (partial) • Final characterization • Insertion loss

  7. Qualification due to Fiber array changeGR 1221 Environmental testing

  8. Qualification due to PLC chip change(scenario 1)

  9. Qualification due to PLC chip changeGR 1209 test requirements

  10. Qualification due to PLC chip change(scenario 1)

  11. Qualification due to splitter/module design changes • Option A • Splitter not qualified • Module remains the same • Options B • Splitter qualified by any supplier • Module not qualified • Option C • Splitter not qualified • Module not qualified • Complete test program

  12. Option AModule previously qualified, new splitter component

  13. Option A – GR 1209 test requirementsModule previously qualified, new splitter component

  14. Option A – GR1221Module previously qualified, new splitter component

  15. Option B – GR 1209New Module, splitter previously qualified

  16. Option B – GR 1209New Module, splitter previously qualified If the initial and final optical measurements don’t conform to the specifications, all required optical measurements should be performed
