NetAcad Impact in North Africa/Levant • 145 active academies. • 8500 enrolled new students as of February 2006 • 30% year over year growth • Successful Partnerships with Int’l Organizations such as UNIFEM, ESCWA, UNDP, USAID, ITU and UNRWA • NetAcad is heavily engaged currently with Government partnerships such as the Ministry of CIT in Egypt, The information System Institute of the Egyptian Military Forces, Ministry of Education Jordan, Ministry of Post and Telecom Algeria, Ministry of Professional Training and Education Algeria, Ministry of National Education and Ministry of Professional Training and Education in Morocco.

Successful Projects - NAL • UNIFEM Arab States Regional Office – Jordan “Achieving E-Quality Initiative” since 2002 promoting ICT for women and strengthening their technical skills acquired by NetAcad with UNIFEM soft skills training program and Job Placement in Jordan (10 academies). • UNIFEM/HARIRI/CISCO “Achieving E-Quality Initiative” (10 academies in Lebanon). • ESCWA/CISCO NetAcad Project in Iraq (44 academies). • The E-Learning Competence Center in Egypt 13 ITE acads targeting SMEs development. • Mobile IT clubs – Egypt (4 mobile ITE academies) • Launch of 33 acads in Algeria with the Ministry of Professional Training & Education • UNIFEM/USAID/CISCO “E-Parite Initiative” (10 academies) in Morocco

Iraq Overview • Partners: • UN – Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia-ESCWA • Cisco Systems • Project Approved by the Ministry of Higher Education – Iraq • Academies: • University of Baghdad (Public) • Basrah University (Public) • Mosul University (Public) • Mansour University College (Private) • Local Academies were identified by each Regional Academy and are currently being recruited • Funding: • UNAMI (United Nations Aid Mission for Iraq) • Cisco Systems (In-kind) • US Coalition Provisional Authority to Mosul University • Curriculum: • CCNA • IT Essentials I and II

Iraq Networking Academy Program Phase I – Regional Academies (Background) • Project is a partnership between Cisco and ESCWA Iraq Task Force (Economic Social Commission for Western Asia) • Funding from Cisco and UNAMI (United Nations Aid Mission for Iraq) • Support of Ministry of Higher Education granted (nominated Instructors and approved nominated Universities) • Established 4 Regional Academies (Baghdad University, Basrah University, Mosul University, Mansour University College) • All RAs are also Local Academies and so opened student classes • 40 potential Local Academies identified in Phase I • List of Local Academies to be reviewed and academies established in Phase II • Extra donations received from: • Cisco Press (study guides and books to 4 RAs) • IBM (26 Lap tops distributed to instructors and coordinators of project) • US Coalition Provisional Authority donated funds to Mosul University

Iraq Networking Academy Program – Update on Phase I (February ‘05) • Curricula delivered: IT Essentials I & II, and CCNA • Instructor training on both curricula completed at CATC for 13 instructors (11 males, 2 females) in August 2004 • First IT essentials course started in Iraq mid Feb 2005 at Mansour University College – 12 students (4 females, 8 males) • CCNA Labs at regional Academies being completed and prepared to start student classes • A project coordinator is based in Iraq and is supporting the Academies and liaising with Cisco, ESCWA and Academies to support the program moving forward (Hazim Assaad is the ‘man on the ground’ for the project)

Iraq Networking Academy Program Phase II Plan – Local Academies • List of 40 Potential Local Academies identified in Phase I to be reviewed and assessed • Establish labs at Local Academies (funding available from overall project budget) • Local Academies at Regional Academy sites have already started in Phase I, and so best practice to be shared (in train the trainer course) • IT Essentials and CCNA student classes to commence in the remaining Local Academies in Phase II

Iraq Networking Academy Program – Update on Phase I & II (May ‘06) • ESCWA purchased the remaining 40 bundles to be shipped to Local academies • 4 RAs + 9 LAs (6 academies are actively teaching) • Accumulated no. of new students as of Feb 2006 = 273 students (241 CCNA and 26 ITE 1) • May statistics shows an increase in no. of enrolled ITE1 students that reached 98 students. • 3 academies are actively teaching ITE 1 • 3 academies are actively teaching CCNA
