A little about myself: • Family – Darren, Kendra, Kelsey • Seattle, WA native • SPU - Bachelors in Elementary Education • Lesley University - Masters in Education • Creative Arts in Learning • 26thyear teaching • Kindergarten for 13 years • 1stgrade for 3 years • 3rd-5th grade for 9 years
Goals forthe school year: • Build self-confidence in students • Grow socially, emotionally as well as academically • Show respect for self and others • Build social skills needed to be a good friend • Gain independence and celebrate unique abilities • Ability to take risks, have fun learning • Build foundation for aspiring life-long learners

Kindergarten Goals: • Goals correlate with D.11 e-skill and CO state standards • Look for quarterly reminders in the newsletters
DIBELs: • FSF- Fall/ Winter (First Sound Fluency) The children will not see pictures, they will just hear a word and try to say the first sound.

DIBELs: • NWF- Winter/ Spring (Nonsense Word Fluency) • PSF- (Not Pictured) (Phoneme Segmentation Fluency) • Winter/ Spring • If child does not benchmark on a given test, progress-monitoring will take place every 2-4 weeks.
Kindergarten Curriculum: • Math: Everyday Math curriculum and ST Math (JiJi) • Calendar: Days of the week, months, #chart, money practice, graphing, pattern practice, place value practice, DIBELs practice • Literacy: Orton-Gillingham (for letter of the week), Reader’s Workshop, Chipeta’s Leveled- Book Room, and Story Town • Writing: Writer’s Workshop, Step-Up to Writing • Types of writing taught: • Personal Narrative, Opinion Writing, Letter writing, Informational Paragraph, Nonfiction Book writing, Book making by unit of study • Science: Science Kit Units of Study: • Five Senses, Balls and Ramps, Plants, Temperature/ Weather, Butterflies, and Animals

Snack Time • Option 1 = Parents send in a box of crackers for the children to share, replenish as needed, children get a small snack (current system) • Option 2 = Each child brings his/her own snack each day (I will use shared snacks for the kids who forget), children get bigger snack and possibly a healthier snack (fruit/veggie), parents would need to make sure the snack is ready to eat (ex. not ask us to cut it up)
