Central Vacuole Shows a vacuole inside of a plant cell
Basic Information • Located in plant cells • Stores food, nutrients, and wastes • Size depends on how much water the plant has inside of it • Size can range from 30%-90% of cells volume • Takes up to about 90% of plant cell when full
Basic Information • Is enclosed by the tonoplast which is a membrane • Slowly develops as the cell does through fusion • Has a solution inside called cell sap • Some vacuoles contains pigments the can determine the color of the plant • Contains waste that are bitter to the cells • Developing seed cells use the vacuole for repository for a protein stage
Central Vacuole This is a diagram of the vacuole upclose
Discovery • Was first seen by LazzaroSpallanzani in 1776 • Given name vacuole by Felix Dujardin in 1844 • Felix described it as a jelly-like substance inside of the plant cell
Central Vacuole This is what a central vacuole looks like under a microscope
