Multi- • Examples: Multicolor, Multitude, Multiplayer, Multigenerational • Definition: more than one Compound Sentence: I closed my eyes as I played and watched the multicolored notes float behind my eyelids and nobody seemed to care that I wasn’t the same skin color as them. Simple Sentence: The streets were clogged with multitudes of people listening to the sounds of the Harlem renaissance.
Fore- • Examples: Foretold, Forewarned, Forecast, Forestall • Definition: before Compound Sentence: The streets were clogged with performers but the forecast said it would soon be rainy. Simple Sentence: It would have been nice if I had been forewarned about the rain.
Hyper- • Examples: Hyperventilate, Hypersensitive, Hyperactive, Hyperbole • Definition: over Simple Sentence: I wanted to hyperventilate when I saw the throngs of people on the street looking at me. Compound Sentence: My eardrums were assaulted by sounds and my hypersensitive hearing couldn’t take all of the noise
Self- • Example: Self explanatory, Self centered, Self reliant, Self confidence • Definition: by yourself Compound Sentence: I felt very self reliant as I picked up my paycheck and walked out into the sounds of the street. Simple Sentence: I puffed up with self confidence and walked out to recite my poem.
