Pectoral Girdle Muscles • Trapezius- • Shape: large, triangular muscle of the upper back • Location: extends horizontally from the skull base & the cervical/ thoracic vertebrae to the shoulder • Action: rotate the scapula & can pull the head backward

Pectoral Girdle Muscles • Rhomboid Major/Minor- connect vertebral column to the scapula; retracts & elevates the scapula & can rotate the scapula downward
Pectoral Girdle Muscles • Levator Scapulae: • Shape: straplike muscle • Location: runs vertically through the neck; connecting cervical vertebrae to the scapula • Action: elevating the scapula
Pectoral Girdle Muscles • Serratus Anterior: • Shape: broad curved muscle; narrow strips • Location: side of the chest; extends along the ribs to the scapula • Action: pulls the scapula downward; used when pushing something
Pectoral Girdle Muscles • Pectoralis Minor: • Shape: thin, flat muscle • Location: extends laterally & upward from the ribs to the scapula • Action: pulls the scapula forward/ downward & raises ribs during inhalation
