  2. What happened? World War 1 aka First World War, the Great War, and the War to End All Warsstarted when Bosnian revolutionary Gavrilo Princip assassinated the Austrian archduke Franz Ferdinard on 28th June 1914. The retaliation by Austria-Hungary against the Kingdom of Serbia activated a series of alliances that set off a series of war declarations. Within a month, much of Europe was in a state of open warfare. Germany got involved by wanting to be more powerful and take all the land, they declared war on Russia. Many alliances were made and country by country joined until it was all one big world war.

  3. The affects Over 15 million people were killed in world war 1. It affected every single person in that 15 million’s friends, families and so on. It affected the economy, countries money was all going into the defence force, so many people lost jobs, money and become bankrupt because the country was. World war 1 caused the great depression because of loss of money.

  4. Why should year 9’s know about this? It is important for year 9’s to know about world war 1 so they can know the sacrifice of their ancestors and every single person who fought or nursed in the war, so we could have the life we have today, the world we live in today wouldn’t be like it is today without the sacrifice. They need to understand why we gather every Anzac Day to commemorate the fallen, to pay our respect.

  6. What Happened? World war 2 started when In 1918, Germany lost World War One. They had to give up land and was banned from having armed forces. In 1933 the German people voted for a leader named Adolf Hitler who promised to make his country great again and quickly began to arm Germany again and to seize land from other countries. Shortly before 5am on Friday 1st September 1939, German forces stormed the Polish frontier. Tanks and motorised troops raced into the country over ground, supported by Stuka dive bombers overhead. A total of 1.25 million Germans soldiers swept into Poland. World War Two in Europe began on 3rd September 1939, when the Prime Minister of Britain, Neville Chamberlain, and France declared war on Germany. It involved many of the world's countries.

  7. The effects German bombers made terrifying night raids so people were always scared to sleep in their own homes. Families were broken up as men were sent to fight, some never to return. Children were sent out of the cities to stay with strangers to be away from the bombing. Shops were half empty of things to buy and what was available was often rationed. The peaceful routine of everyday life was shattered.

  8. Why should year 9’s know about this?
