Know Your Funder • Programmatic priorities • Make sure your grant is going to the right place • Talk to the program manager • Visit in person • Read the RFP carefully
Prepare • Know what is being done • Lit search • Professional education meetings • Work must be original • Exception: programs that specifically support adaptation
Partnerships • Find people who know things you don’t • Establish partnerships early • Divide responsibilities • Document activities
Assessment • How do you ‘know it works’? • Formative/Summative • Use external assessor • Integrated into overall plan
Dissemination Plan • Posting on the web is NOT dissemination • Publish • Talks • Materials
Perseverance • Don’t be discouraged by an initial failure • Do use referee comments • Do talk to people with successful grants • Do volunteer to serve as a reviewer
