1979Soviet Union Enter Afghanistan • Soviet Union invades Afghanistan, spreading communism, making a communist government and taking control.
1992- 1994Taliban Start Fighting Creating a War • Mohammed Omar becomes the leader of the Taliban, and makes the Taliban a strong religious group. • Afghanistan’s communist government falls and militia groups are creating a war.
1996- 1997Taliban Continue to Take Over Afghanistan • The Taliban took over Kabul (the capital city of Afghanistan). • The Taliban took over two thirds of Afghanistan.
2001British and US forces come to Afghanistan • US and British forces take control over Kabul and the Taliban retreat south or to the border of Pakistan.
2001-2002NATO comes into Afghanistan to stop Taliban • NATO-led International Security Assistant Force (I.S.A.F.) enter Afghanistan to help US and British soldiers. • Al-Qaeda hijacks four planes in the USA to reroute the course to World Trade Center on September 11th 2001.
2011Osama bin Laden is Killed • Afghan President’s half brother was assassinated by the Taliban. • Osama bin Laden was killed by US Navy Seals in Abbottabad, Pakistan. • About 500 Taliban break out of Kandahar prison in Afghanistan.
2012Children are Taken Away From Families to Fight in the War • The Taliban opened an office in Dubai to move toward peace talks with US and Afghan government. • The Taliban recruited 47 children as young as 8 years old.
