How Does Co-Op Work? • First, fill out application to Co-Op • Then, interview with Mrs. Stonecipher • Once approved eligible, then admitted to Co-Op • Student Seeks or Continues Employment • Attend classes 1st – 3rd everyday; 4th – Seminar Weekly • Work 15-20 hours/week the entire semester • Earn at least $7.25/hour • Work A MINIMUM 270 Hours • Evaluated by Employer & Coordinator (Mrs. Stonecipher) • Participate in a CTSO • Monthly visits by Coordinator (Mrs. Stonecipher)
Student Must Meet 1 of 2 Options Below: • Option 1: (Advanced Cooperative Education) Student is of concentrator status (2 credits in sequenced Career Tech Classes) with a job related to those classes. • OR • Option 2: (Structured Work Study) Student has had 1 Career Tech class where Career Pathway and Job Placement must match.
After Meeting an Option- Students Must Have: • “Suitable” placement with an employer related to Career Goals of the CT Course(s) enrolled • Passed all areas of AL Exit Exam or meet specific criteria set by MSCFT • Good Attendance Record (Current and Previous Semester) • Positive Recommendation from 3 teachers • Meet requirements for Senior status (EXCEPTIONS determined by Co-Op Coordinator, Mrs. Stonecipher) • Approval from Principal, Employer, Coordinator, and Parent • Reliable Transportation (MSCFT is not responsible for this) • Completed or Enrolled in Workforce Essentials (AOD Students) • Passing grades in ALL core subjects
Alabama Occupational Diploma • Co-Op requirements for students receiving an AOD are NO DIFFERENT than from students seeking other types of diplomas • Referred to Coordinator at least 1 year prior to taking Workforce Essentials • Job Coach is available to provide on the job training with students but NOT responsible for job placement or transportation for students.
