Miscellaneous • Do not assume I will be available for help after school • Before school I will still be available • If I’m not in my room, check other places! • I will be available during homeroom • Check with me about after school time • Review times can be arranged ahead of time

Grade Sheet 1A – SR p. 61 - 5 pts Measurement W.S. – 10 pts 3A SR p. 42 – 6 pts 4A – SR p. 47 – 5 pts 2A – Measurement W.S. – 10 pts
Death by Osmosis! • 2 paragraphs • 1st paragraph • explain how penicillin kills bacteria • Do not plagiarize! • 2nd paragraph • give your opinion and justification about whether it should be taken on a daily basis. • When completed, hand in (notes and essay stapled together) • Read 73-80 or review notes
Membrane Protein • Transport proteins • Used to move large polar molecules across the membrane
Facilitated Diffusion • Movement of molecules from high concentration to low concentration through a transport protein • Glucose (sugar) enters cells in this manner
Ion Channels(a type of facilitated diffusion) • Transport proteins have polar channels for the important ions to pass • Na+, K+, Ca2+, and Cl- • Used in maintaining electrical charge of nerve cells
Chapter 4 Quiz 1 Review • Matching I • Contractile vacuole, cytolysis, diffusion, endocytosis, exocytosis, hypertonic, hypotonic, isotonic, osmosis, plasmolysis, selectively permeable, turgor • Matching II • Turgor, solute, cell wall, diffusion, lipid bilayer, osmosis, passive transport • Cell in a beaker • Solutes and diffusion
Eggsperiment • Work with your partner • Take very careful measurements • Each partner answer on their own • Please use the answer sheet for hypothesis and other answers. • Answer in terms of osmotic solutions using terms like high concentration, low concentration, hypotonic, isotonic, hypertonic
Eggsperiment • Work in pairs, but complete and hand in your own paper • BE CAREFUL WITH THE EGG • if broken, your lab is done • There are 8 minutes between measurements - use your time to prepare for your quiz!!!
