1) Passalora fulva to azoxystrobin Following speech made by Mr. Watanabe, Gifu Agricultural Research Center in March, 2009. Since reduced efficacy of azoxystrobin observed on P. fluva (Fulvia fulva) causal pathogen of leaf mold on tomato, 271 isolates were collected in Gifu prefecture and the susceptibility was checked. *22 % of the isolates grew on PDA plate containing 100 ppm of azoxystrobin plus n-propyl gallate. *Reduced efficacy was observed under green house trial inoculated by the isolate.
Sequel speech made in October, 2009 at local meeting of the phytopathological society Japan. Sequence of cytochrome b gene of susceptible and resistant strains were analyzed. • Change from phenylalanine to leucine at position 129 (F129L) found on analyzed all resistant strains (5 strains). • This is the 1st F129L in Japan while only G143A had been found on powdery mildew.
2) Sensitivity of SDHI Dr. Ishii reported ‘Sensitivity of boscalid-resisitant and -sensitive isolates of Corynespora cassicola and Podosphaera xanthii to a novel succinate dehaydrogenase inhibitor (SDHI) fluopyram’ at the 1st Japan-Korea Joint Symposium of Plant Pathology. Isolates resistant to boscalid, a SDHI, have been detected in C. cassicola and P. xanthii in Japan. In this study the sensitivity of these pathogens to fluopyram was tested.
Boscalid–resistant isolates of C. cassicola were clearly distinguished from sensitive isolates when comparing their mycelial growth on YBA agar. In contrast the difference of fluopyram sensitivity between boscalid–resistant and -sensitive isolates was much less. • The growth of boscalid–resistant and -sensitive isolates suppressed on fluopyram-amended YBA. • Isolates showing very high resistance to boscalid were controlled well by fluopyram in an inoculation test using cucumber plants. • Fluopyram exhibited good efficacy against boscalid-resistant isolates of P. xanthii, too. • These results may indicate the involvement of a distinct mode of action for fluopyram compared to boscalid.
2. Others SDHI use guideline in Japan • BASF, Mitsui and Tanabe had discussion to make SDHI use guideline in Japan since June 2009, but not yet concluded. • Dr. Ishi’s group and we (BASF, MITSUI and Tanabe) had a short meeting concerning SDHI guideline in November 9. We want to make a consolidate guideline, however they do not satisfy our draft. For example they want to include that ‘not to use SDHI on the crop/disease once resistance reported in the area’. • We continue the discussion, however if they do not agree to our guideline, they will make their own strict guideline.
